The beginning of Fall is announced at our house with these funky pumpkins that my friend AND local artist, Lynne Bonnell, makes. I called her "The Pumpkin Lady" before I knew her (and it stuck....sorry, Lynne!). I am completely in love with her pumpkins, which are made from various, gorgeous fabrics and topped with real pumpkin stems. They come in all sizes, colors, textures, etc. We leave them out all year, but, when it is officially Fall, they are displayed in our huge, rusted metal cornucopia on our big dining table. We still don't have enough in our collection.

Then begins the sugar skull mania in our home.

Sugar skulls descend upon us and fill every crevice in our kitchen. It is a treat for the senses.

A fabulous sea of sugar skulls. Before they become embellished.

They go on forever! We become like family before the process is complete.

Bring on the icing and foil and feathers and sequins and anything we can find! This is a family affair.

My niece, April, in sugar skull bliss. It is far too easy to fall into a meditative abyss while decorating these treasures. It is truly wonderful experience that can eliminate an entire afternoon span of time into a few minutes. Where does the time really go?!

A few finished works of art.
